When Jesus was resurrected, ancient scripture says many rose from the grave. Today, 36 from this group of undead remain. Known as the Nistarim, they are here to watch over the world.

When Judas hung himself, his blood mysteriously gave rise to another group of undead: the unholy Collectors. Now very much alive, they feed on souls and human blood.

Both groups of immortals still walk among us in an eternal struggle. Now both are after a single target–a … More >>

  1. With Haunt of Jackals, author Eric Wilson continues the story of Those Who Resist and Those Who Hunt begun in Field of Blood. Gina is separated from Cal and Dov, but they have a rendezvous point in Bucharest where they will regroup and continue their efforts to take down the vilest of Those Who Hunt, the Akaldema Cluster.

Having read each of Wilson’s previous novels I can tell you this author is always, growing and stretching the boundaries of his talent. With each new release I’m surprised and pleased with what I see and experience. For those who may have read Field of Blood I believe HOJ is a much faster, better paced story. With FOB there was the usual time taken to set up characters and locations, motives and directives. For some, this may have slowed the pace a bit. You won’t find this here. From the moment you find Gina in the midst of her struggle with Ariston onward the race is on and with twists and turns aplenty. One of the things that really interested me is the relationship of HOJ to Wilson’s previous novels going back as far as his debut six years ago with Dark To Mortal Eyes and my personal favorite, Expiration Date. I was amazed at how he made all these stories fit, yet if you haven’t read his previous work you weren’t necessary at a loss. Each story is complete on it’s on. I also like the way the thorns from FOB was brought back and built upon. How we all carry thorns and Those Who Hunt feed upon them. FOB touched on this and HOJ delves in deeper, something that often isn’t done in a series.

I anxiously await the conclusion to the Jerusalem’s Undead trilogy in the Spring of 2010, Valley of Bones, available from preorder from Amazon now.

  2. Eric Wilson delivers a raw, heart-pounding tale with deep symbolism, while not resorting to the overt proselytizing that mars most spiritual fiction. His faith runs deeper than that through this action-packed tale, trusting the reader to visit dangerous places inside themselves. We need more writers like Wilson!

Pavel, a young orphan boy, is being hunted by the collectors. Cal places Pavel in Gina’s care hoping to keep him safe from the evil lurking on the boys doorstep

As Gina works to protect Pavel, Cal searches for the collectors missing leader. The collectors themselves are also looking for their leader, thinking that with him in a place of power in their household they may finally destroy the existence of the Nistarim forever.

I have always enjoyed Eric Wilson’s work. When I heard he was writing a series with a vampire type theme, I must confess…I was a little bit sceptic. I bought book one (Field of Blood) even though I didn’t think I would enjoy it. I bought it in faith I guess. My fears were quickly put to rest though. It was amazing and book two was even better.

“Haunt of Jackals” closes so many doors that had been opened in book one but at the same time adds on more questions to be answered in book three (do in April I believe).

The way Wilson adds the archeology feel to every book really adds to it’s appeal as well.

This series really is worth reading and I am excited to see how the series concludes.

I recall Bram Stoker’s Dracula being one of those books, in university, that really thrilled me, emotionally, and shook me up, spiritually.

Eric Wilson’s books, Field of Blood and Haunt of Jackals, provide the same kind of thrills and shakes.

A thorough researcher, Eric breathes life into his research so that his work is neither dry nor pedantic but character driven. In both books, the point of view switches effectively and Eric allows each character to have a distinct voice.

Better than other commercial vampire novels, these books are suspenseful, challenging, evocative, highly imaginative and just plain exciting.

I can’t recommend them highly enough!

Haunt of Jackals by Eric Wilson is a suspense/thriller book. It sheds light on the darkness of sin and how it can envelop us and eat us up if we don’t step into the light.

At first when I read this, I thought very “Vatican-ish”; the whole Dan Brown Angels and Demon’s things was very forefront in my mind. It took me a while to get into it- probably three or four chapters before I started wanting to read it. But as I got into it, I enjoyed it more and more. The characters were brought to life (and I do think reading the first part of the trilogy would be useful) and I couldn’t help but wonder what was happening to them next.

I loved the different views on the story; having the option of seeing it from 3/4 sides was really interesting. I also found the obscure letters woven in the book that come together at the end extremely clever. I love the way the book weaves through history and brings things into life. It is an epic fight of good versus evil and the cost of sin in our lives.

Wilson is a great storyteller who weaves a chaotic tale that will send shivers down your spine. Amongst the fiction, I found truths the book that made me oooo and ah-ha through it. And the more I read, the better I liked the book. The end of the book made me gasp and cry! I will definitely be getting the next book!

The only thing I worry about books like this, is people taking it too seriously. Sort of like the Left Behind series, or even Angels and Demons. It’s easy to get a following for this type of fiction and some of the crazies coming out of the closet over vampires and such (or sporting Harry Potter attire, or trekkie gear.. or screaming “The end is nearrrrrrrr! We’re all going to die!!” lol you know what I mean?) It is fiction and we need to remember that! I think it’s good Christian Adult reading and competitive for the secular market.
